Solidarity, Not Charity!

Here is the text from the GoFundMe page:

“This GoFundMe is Black Women in Black’s (BWIB) first attempt to generate resources for ourselves, instead of waiting for other organizations to pay our way. We need to raise at least $5000 to pay for travel and housing for an action we are planning in Washington DC at the end of March. Some of us are traveling from California, Missouri and New York.

“Black Women in Black is a legion of black mothers and organizers who have come together to expose the U.S. government’s acts of genocide against African (black) people. Many of us have experienced the loss of our children at the hands of the State and have watched as our children’s murderers walked free - liberated by the colonial judicial system. Therefore we are guided by the revolutionary understanding that our fight for justice is inextricably tied to the fight to be free from colonial domination.

“We will no longer be pimped by opportunist organizations that exploit our stories of pain, for their profit. We will no longer heed cautionary advice that stops us from exposing the complicity of the U.S. government in the genocidal conditions that African people face within these borders.

“We have organized ourselves into this committee as a way to free us up to do the type of work necessary to make a real struggle for change.

“Our community is facing unprecedented pressure from the police killings of our family members, to mass incarceration, to the poisoning of our water supplies. It is imperative that we as a people unite and stand up against the genocidal acts that are destroying us. We are mothers, grandmothers, caregivers, sisters, and loved ones, who are standing up against state sponsored oppression.

“We appreciate each and every donor to this cause and thank each and every one from the bottom of our hearts. You are not only funding an action you are funding a movement. Any left over amount will be banked for future organizing initiatives that We Choose to take on.”
